The Odd-yssey
Live your own experience
The Odd-yssey is, as its name indicates, odd and comfortable with its oddness. This exploration game revolves around different dynamics to develop Styx’s atmosphere without appearing as boring or repetitive. The player is an astronaut, the last of its crew, lost on an unknown planet, Styx, after the crash of its shuttle. Their goal? Fix the shuttle to escape Styx, this living hell deprived of oxygen. The player and their ship have fallen in a pit and a crucial part of the vessel was damaged in the process, breaking in several pieces which were spread all over the giant crater. The player has to collect these pieces to be able to takeoff, but it won’t be that easy. In order to gather the scattered pieces, the player will have to explore different areas of the crater, answer enigmas and riddles and solve puzzles. In the meantime, the lack of air will require them to fight monsters in order to get some crystal gems in which oxygen can be found, but also to regularly come back to the ship. Our game’s purpose is to make the player travel (even if it is to a cold and dangerous planet), discover a brand new environment through exploration, and escape from reality thanks to enigmas, mythology and puns.

The Algonauts
The Algonauts is a crew of four brave Epita students, united by chance (or Fate?) and strongly determined to achieve a Herculean task: combine mythology, exploration dynamics and space in a single game, while making it playable (and enjoyable, we hope!). Our name was a brilliant idea that we owe to Captain Magali. We are astronauts, but we don’t wonder through space, only through algo class, which is kind of similar if we consider the fact that it is big and enough abstract to contain the gist of the universe.

The Game
How it works?
The game will focus on the quest for the broken parts of The Algo, leading the player to wonder through different types of environment. A progress bar, placed on the main screen, will inform the player of the number of pieces that remain to find, and they will have to bring those already found to the vessel in order to solve some puzzle game to fix the ship The puzzle and the location of the pieces will be generated randomly, to make each game unique and challenging (it will especially be useful for multiplayer, as the games will be shorter and more likely to be played successively). Another progress bar will embody the oxygen level, so that the player will be able to manage their time in a single glance. This feature will be particularly important regarding the gameplay, as a long time without oxygen will result in significant consequences: the character’s motions will slow down, and playing will get harder, eventually leading to a game over. Another gauge will appear in multiplayer games. Its purpose? Measure the time taken by the players to gather the pieces...
